About the training

This one-day training is designed for those who work with young adults/adults with Level 1 autism. The workshop will be led by Dr. Rachel Hundley of Vanderbilt University, Dr. Frances Niarhos from Vanderbilt University’s Counseling Center, as well as Kathy Dow-Burger of UMD’s SIGNA, PEERS, and EFFECT programs for teens and college students. Learn about the different types of interviews given to adults, more autism measures and other assessments (e.g., mental health), differential diagnoses, barriers and pathways experienced in higher education and beyond, and more.

This day will include intensive training on Module 4 (Level 1 Autism) with emphasis on diagnosis of young adults/adults in higher education and the employment setting, using additional measures to include assessments for mental health concern. Professionals wishing to attend this session must have completed a previous ADOS-2 training. (We have a 2-day clinical training on the ADOS-2 on May 11-12!)

 This training will be offered on May 19, 8:30 am – 5 pm ET, on Zoom.

CEUs

  • American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) CEU certificates will be available for speech-language pathologists who have attended the entire training. Application has been made to offer this activity for 0.65 ASHA CEUs, professional area, advanced level.
  • All participants who attend the entire training will receive a Certificate of Completion for 6.5 hours signed by Dr. Rachel Hundley. This follow up letter has been used by attendees to petition their professional organizations to receive CEU credit.

Our Trainers

Rachel Hundley, PhD

Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences

Vanderbilt University Medical Center

Dr. Hundley is a clinical psychologist who specializes in the assessment and ongoing care of children with developmental disabilities, emotional and behavioral concerns, and autism spectrum disorders. She is committed to lifelong learning and to educating other clinicians and researchers in best practices for the assessment of children with disabilities. As a WPS-certified trainer for the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, she has taught this measure nationally and internationally.

Frances Niarhos, PhD, HSP

Associate Director for Training
Vanderbilt University Counseling Center

Dr. Niarhos enjoys helping young adults identify potential barriers to their academic success using well-established measure of cognitive, academic and mental health functioning. Her clinical interests include psychological assessment of learning and neurodevelopmental disorders, including ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder, and other mental health disorders commonly affecting young adults. 

Kathy Dow-Burger

Clinical Associate Professor
University of Maryland Hearing and Speech Sciences 

Ms. Dow-Burger has expertise in the evaluation and treatment of pediatric, adolescent, and adult  autism spectrum disorders, language-learning & reading disabilities, speech/language disorders and stuttering.  She is also the developer and coordinator of UMD’s Social Interaction Group Network for All (SIGNA) and UMD’s EFFECT & PEERS Teen/Parent programs, all comprehensive support programs for neurodivergent University students and community adolescents, respectively.
