Faculty Assistant, Department of Hearing & Speech Sciences
Devon Brunson possesses the certificate of clinical competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and has earned the distinction of certified brain injury specialist from the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists. She is licensed as a practitioner in the states of Georgia, Maryland, and North Carolina in the provision of teletherapy through her private practice, Cognition, Speech & Language. She has experience across various clinical settings, including: community-based early intervention, school-based therapy, and inpatient and outpatient therapy for children and adults.
Within the Department of Hearing & Speech Sciences at the University of Maryland, Devon serves as a faculty assistant for EFFECT (Executive Functioning for Effective Cognitive Transformation) and SIGNA (Social Interaction Group Network for All). She oversees the academic instruction and clinical supervision of undergraduate and graduate speech-language pathology students in intervention practices for neurodivergent teens and young adults.
Devon’s greatest passion is making everyday experiences easier for young adults. Differences in expression, comprehension, social engagement, and thinking can happen for various reasons. However, this should not impede individuals from engaging in home, community, or job-related activities. Devon’s role as a speech-language pathologist is to aid in the exploration of cognitive and communicative strategies which can be used to support daily functioning and interactions with social partners. Her ultimate goal is to incorporate a holistic view of persons seeking therapeutic guidance so that they may work towards implementing functional tools which can be seamlessly incorporated throughout their day.
